The Los Angeles Angels announced on Tuesday that third baseman Anthony Rendon will be placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to July 5 due to a hamstring strain. The veteran third baseman suffered the injury in the sixth inning of Sunday’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.

After the game, Angels manager Joe Maddon told reporters that Rendon’s absence, along with Taylor Ward’s should not be elongated. To replace Rendon on the 26-man roster, the Angels recalled Jack Mayfield from Triple-A. This season, the 31-year-old third baseman is slugging .240/.329/.382 with 6 HRs and 34 RBI.

In tonight’s game against the Boston Red Sox, the Angels will start Jose Rojas at third base, who will be hitting ninth in the batting order. This season, Rojas is hitting .213 with 4 HRs, 10 RBI, and 2 stolen bases. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani will be playing both ways tonight and hitting second in the order behind lead-off hitter David Flethcer.
