The 2021 NBA Draft will take place Thursday, July 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Detroit Pistons were awarded the top pick via the 2021 NBA draft lottery, which took place June 22.
The Pistons, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic all had a 14.0 percent chance to land the top pick. The Rockets got the No. 2 selection, while the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors jumped the Magic in the lottery with the No. 3 and No. 4 selections, respectively.
2021 NBA Draft first pick: Detroit Pistons
The Pistons have reportedly inquired about trade offers, but will likely take Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham with the first selection if they don’t move the pick. Cunningham has the makings of a future MVP with a complete game. He’ll likely fit in as the lead ball handler for Detroit, but has the skills to move off the ball if the Pistons want to give Killian Hayes more run as the point guard. Cunningham’s shooting and driving ability make him a good fit alongside Hayes and the rest of Detroit’s roster.
