UPDATE: USA Gymnastics informed USA Today’s Nancy Armour that Biles withdrew due to a medical issue and “she will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.” A mental health issue is a medical issue, so this would still seemingly line up with what the broadcast reported earlier. The women’s all-around would be the next event Biles would compete in and that is scheduled for Thursday, July 29 at 6:50 a.m. ET.

UPDATE: The Olympic broadcast announced that Biles is out due to a mental concern.

UPDATE: USA Gymnastics informed USA Today that Simone Biles is OUT for the rest of the night due to her injury.

Team USA has gotten off to an inauspicious start in the gymnastics team all-around competition. Simone Biles, arguably the greatest gymnast ever, struggled in her vault to open the final, and then had to leave the floor with a trainer, per Nancy Armour.

Heading into the second rotation of events, Jordan Chiles is replacing her in the uneven bars, per Scott Reid. Both Armour and Reid are reporting Biles has taken off her grips and gotten back into her warmup pants.

Here’s video of her vault that saw her stumble and finish with a low score of 13.766 in the first rotation.
