The Seattle Seahawks won the NFC West in 2020, going 12-4 to clinch a playoff spot. They lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the wild card round in a rare poor showing for QB Russell Wilson.
Last season, Wilson set career marks in completion percentage and touchdowns but was reportedly frustrated with the team for allegedly blowing off his input for how the offense should be run. If that tension has been eased, the quarterback has enough talent to make Seattle a contender.
Unfortunately, there appeared to be little done to revamp a disastrous offensive line. The Seahawks added TE Gerald Everett, DE Kerry Hyder, and OLB Aldon Smith in free agency, but the only offensive lineman they added was sixth-round pick Stone Forsythe. If the offensive line struggles, Wilson could become more frustrated.
Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl 56 odds: +2500
The offensive line is a concern for the Seahawks, but the other issue is pass defense. The vaunted “Legion of Boom” is no longer a thing in Seattle. The Seahawks were 31st in passing yards per game allowed last season, mitigating anything Wilson and the offense did. Seattle’s offense is explosive, but its offensive line and defense are two big weaknesses.
If the current group of defensive backs re-create the Legion of Boom and the offensive line marginally improves, the Seahawks will be true Super Bowl contenders. The offense is great and Seattle’s pass rush is decent enough to generate turnovers if the secondary comes around.
