Boxing’s junior lightweight division remains a bit of a mess with titles strewn every which way. WBA (super) junior lightweight champ Gervonta Davis is headed up to super lightweight for a title fight and it’s unclear what his plan is beyond that. Meanwhile, WBC champ Oscar Valdez and WBO champ Jamel Herring are eyeing each other but haven’t finalized a fight.
And that brings us to this weekend. Shakur Stevenson and Jeremiah Nakathila will square off for the WBO’s interim junior lightweight championship at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. The WBO ranks Stevenson No. 1 and Nakathila No. 2, although the difference between the two is significant. Nakathila is no pushover at 21-1, but DraftKings Sportsbook has installed Stevenson at -10000 to win.
The fight will air on ESPN and ESPN+. The main card starts at 10 p.m. ET and ring walks for the main event are expected around midnight.
