Titans see odds boost after trading for Julio Jones

The Titans made a big splash with the trade of All-Pro WR Julio Jones. How have their futures odds changed in the aftermath?

Is Tennessee the favorite in the AFC South now?

The Tennessee Titans got their man. Julio Jones just landed in Tennessee for OTAs and they’ve gone from starting free agent pickup Josh Reynolds to starting future Hall-of-Famer Jones in the blink of an eye. It isn’t the greatest move for fantasy production, but it filled a big hole for the Titans and quickly moved them up in the odds to take down the coveted Lombardi Trophy.

From June 5th to June 6th we saw a big jump over at DraftKings Sportsbook:

Super Bowl win: +4000 to +2500
AFC Champions: +1800 to +1200
AFC South Champions: +130 to +110

That movement is pretty strong, as they went from tied at 17th to win the Super Bowl to tied for ninth. Now they are tied for fifth to win the AFC compared to 10th and from second to win the AFC South to tied for first with the Colts.

It’s rare that a 32-year-old receiver can have that much impact on the odds, but the Titans were a perfect fit. They just lost Corey Davis and Jonnu Smith in free agency, but still had a stud in A.J. Brown left to take on a big share of the work. This offseason they did bring in Josh Reynolds from the Rams and drafted Dez Fitzpatrick in the fourth round, but nobody close to the immediate impact Jones will make.

We know the Titans will continue to bust Derrick Henry through opposing defenses’ guts, but with Brown and Jones, teams will have much more trouble keying on the run. And with the Colts needing to break in new quarterback Carson Wentz, The Jaguars at the start of their rebuild with Trevor Lawrence and the Texans at rock bottom, they are in good shape in the AFC South.
