The Los Angeles Lakers attempt to keep their season and championship defense alive Thursday in Game 6 against the Phoenix Suns. The home team is down 3-2 but has LeBron James playing in an elimination game, which is typically bad news for opponents.
Below is a look at a number of predictions ahead of Thursday night’s game for the Free $5K DraftKings Pools - Playoff Edition (PHX-LAL).
Which team will cover the spread? Lakers -2.5 or Suns +2.5
If you believe James’ recent history and his overall body of work in pressure games, the Lakers are the play here. However, if Anthony Davis doesn’t play due to his groin injury, the Suns might have too much for even James to overcome.
What will be the total score? Over/under 207.5
This series has been a defensive battle save for Game 5, and even that game went under 207.5 Both offenses could heat up, but the under is the safer play.
Which team will reach 30 points first? Lakers or Suns
The home team is more desperate and James will look to set the tone early. The Suns have shown resilience and toughness behind Chris Paul’s experience, but the Lakers should reach 30 points first.
Which team will make more 3-point field goals? Lakers or Suns
The Lakers have been a terrible 3-point shooting team in the postseason, but could get their act together tonight in a do-or-die situation. The Suns have generally better shooters across the board and are the safer play here.
Who will have more points and assists? Devin Booker or LeBron James
Any time James is in elimination games, you take him in any bet unless the line is truly outrageous. Booker has been good, but he’s not the King.
How many assists for Chris Paul? Over or under 7.5 assists
Paul looks to finally be past the shoulder injury which hindered him in the first three games. He’s averaging 6.8 assists per game in the series, so this is a tough line. Take the over, but don’t be surprised if Paul doesn’t deliver.
How many total points + rebounds + assists for LeBron James? Over or under 38.5
This total is almost insulting to James’ history in playoff elimination games. He tallies almost 35 points alone, making this an easy choice if you believe James will once again deliver with his back against the wall. Take the over.
Who wins the 4th quarter? Lakers or Suns
The Lakers need to win and are rightly favored even with Davis out. They likely won’t be able to open up a big lead, but should eventually edge the Suns in the final frame. Take Los Angeles to win the fourth quarter.
