The knockout round for Euro 2020 begins June 26 when Wales and Denmark match up. The bracket is loaded with Italy, France and Belgium on one side of the tournament and England, Germany and Netherlands headlining the other.
Here’s how we expect the Round of 16 to play out at Euro 2020.
Wales vs. Denmark
To advance: Wales +210, Denmark -286
Denmark is the favorite to take down Wales, but Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey are capable to winning a match on their own. The Danes will get most of the crowd and neutral fan support after the incident with Christian Eriksen, but Wales has a great chance to keep its tournament run going here.
Pick: Wales
Italy vs. Austria
To advance: Italy -500, Austria +350
Italy absolutely coasted through the group stage, winning all three games and not allowing a single goal. The Azzurri are playing a style unlike previous Italian teams and it seems to be working. Austria has some stars, but probably don’t have enough going forward to challenge Italy in this match.
Pick: Italy
Netherlands vs. Czech Republic
To advance: Netherlands -305, Czech Republic +220
The Dutch are in a great position to make a deep tournament run with Italy, Belgium and France on the opposite side of the bracket. Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries form a dynamic duo in attack and Georginio Wijnaldum is playing at the top of his game. Czech Republic briefly shot to fame after Patrik Schick scored from midfield, but haven’t done much else in the competition.
Pick: Netherlands
Croatia vs. Spain
To advance: Croatia +260, Spain -335
Croatia made a run to the 2018 World Cup final with largely the same group and appear to be getting in rhythm at the right time. Spain also made the knockout round with a massive statement in a 5-0 win over Slovakia. Both teams are trending up but will unfortunately have to play each other in the Round of 16.
Pick: Spain
England vs. Germany
To advance: England -125, Germany +100
This is the banner game of the Round of 16 with heavyweights England and Germany going at it. The Germans needed a late goal to avoid getting bounced from the tournament at the hands of Hungary while England is struggling to get Harry Kane going. Joachim Low’s tenure as Germany’s manager has one more match but he might not have an answer vs. England.
Pick: England
Belgium vs. Portugal
To advance: Belgium -148, Portugal +115
Belgium is one of the favorites to win the tournament, but gets a brutal opening draw in the Round of 16 with Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal. The reigning Euro champions finished third in the group stage due to head-to-head results, but performed well. Belgium’s golden generation is desperately looking for an international trophy.
Pick: Belgium
France vs. Switzerland
To advance: France -500, Switzerland +350
These European neighbors will meet on the pitch with reigning World Cup champions France heavily favored to advance. Switzerland has played well in the group stage, but might not have the creativity necessary to break down France. Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante should dominate in the midfield again for the favorites.
Pick: France
Sweden vs. Ukraine
To advance: Sweden -167, Ukraine +130
Sweden’s experienced group managed to play Spain to a scoreless draw before taking care of Slovakia and Poland to win the group. The team had to get a late goal against Poland to capture the top spot and should be confident in the Round of 16. Ukraine features a dynamic attack, but might be susceptible on the back line.
Pick: Sweden
