The hottest slugger in baseball right now is not Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Fernando Tatis Jr., or even Shohei Ohtani. It is actually Washington Nationals outfielder Kyle Schwarber, who now has 21 home runs on the season after hitting two homers Thursday night against the Miami Marlins.
At the current pace he’s on, the former Chicago Cubs outfielder is projected to hit a career-high 47 HRs and drive in 110 RBI this season. Schwarber has been on absolute tear over the last week or so, just mashing home runs from the leadoff spot. In his last five games, the veteran slugger is slashing .429/.478/1.571 with 8 HRs and 15 RBI (23 plate appearances).
On Friday night, Schwarber and the Nationals will be going up against right-handed pitcher Pablo Lopez, who is 3-4 with a 2.86 ERA this season. Schwarber is batting .333 in three at-bats against Lopez. The left-handed batter is hitting well against right-handed pitchers this season, slashing .257/.319/.643 with 20 HRs.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Schwarber has +250 odds to hit a home run tonight, which is usually numbers we see for Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Guerrero, Tatis, and Ohtani. With those type of odds, it’s hard not to think about sprinkling a little bit of cash to see if he can hit another home run.
