The Phoenix Suns will get their veteran point guard back for Game 3 against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Chris Paul is expected to return with the Suns taking a 2-0 lead to LA. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Phoenix is currently favored to win the NBA title at +100. Those odds could improve if Paul returns to his usual form when he’s back on the court.
The Suns didn’t struggle much with the point guard sidelined, but had several periods of stagnant offensive sets and bad shots. Paul’s presence will help mitigate those moments and improve the fluidity of the offense. He’ll also be a big help defensively by getting the team organized and picking up Reggie Jackson, one of the key Clippers players outside George. Looking forward, Paul will be instrumental in dealing with either Trae Young or Jrue Holiday should the Suns play in the Finals.
Perhaps the most important aspect of Paul’s return is the leadership he provides. Phoenix’s young stars Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges have embraced Paul as their leader and are thriving under his guidance. The Suns have been one of the best stories in the NBA this season and the ride isn’t over yet. After entering the postseason at +1800 to win it all, the Suns are now the top dog in title odds. Paul’s return reinforces that line.
