Wednesday will be the last day for group stage matches, and eight teams are looking to secure a spot in the knockout rounds that will begin on Saturday, June 26th. Spain, Poland, Germany, Portugal, and France are a few of the teams that still need to punch tickets to the next stage. Let’s take a look at who will need to stand out for each team on Wednesday.

Spain’s attack has been extremely underwhelming so far, but 18-year-old Pedri has earned the trust of his county’s manager and played extremely effective soccer. The young midfielder has played for all 90 minutes in both of Spain’s matches and completed a staggering 92% of his passes. If Spain finds its creative spark, Pedri will likely be involved in a goal.

Robert Lewandoski’s second-half goal against Spain earned Poland its lone point of the tournament, and the superstar forward will have to generate more chances to keep his team afloat in Group E. He’s only scored on one of his seven shots, but his teammates aren’t nearly as likely to penetrate Spain’s defenses.

Germany is one point behind France in the group of death and can jump to the top with a win against Hungary. Two of the four goals the German’s scored against Portugal were own goals, but they generated 12 shots and put seven on target. Germany doesn’t have a bonafide goal scorer, but Toni Kroos puts players in the best situation to score with his key passes in open play and on set pieces.

It’s surprising that France’s star striker, Kylian Mbappe, hasn’t made the net bulge yet in the European Championship. The 22-year-old is the key to unlocking France’s potential, and losing to Portugal could force the leaders to drop two spots on the table. Christiano Ronaldo won’t make securing a second win easy.
