Who has the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft?

The Detroit Pistons were awarded the first pick in the 2021 NBA Draft following the draft lottery drawing on Tuesday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Pistons had 14 percent odds to win the first pick in the draft heading into the lottery.

The Pistons will have the chance to select Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham with the first pick in the draft. While there are other appealing prospects, Cunningham is believed to be the consensus No. 1 overall choice among draft analysts heading into the 2021 draft. The 6-foot-8 guard is a Texas native and led the Cowboys with 20.1 points per game as a freshman last season. Cunningham is the complete package, a hybrid guard that should fit right into today’s NBA game, drawing some comparisons to Dallas Mavericks PG Luka Doncic.

If Cunningham somehow isn’t the pick, the Pistons could opt to go big with USC F/C Evan Mobley. The 7-footer led the Trojans in scoring with 16.4 points while averaging 8.7 rebounds with a 57.8 shooting percentage from the floor. Mobley also did a nice job defending the paint, averaging nearly 3.0 blocks per game. He can also stretch it out to the 3-point line a bit, though he didn’t attempt many outside shots as a freshman for USC. Mobley fits the mold of a versatile big who can cause problems on both ends of the floor.
