Oscar De La Hoya to box Vitor Belfort on September 11th as part of Triller promotion

Gimmick boxing is back, but this time instead of social media stars it will be washed-up former fighters that will need to make sure their estate is in order duking it out for the Triller promotion.

Our sister combat sports site MMAFighting.com is reporting the event will be in Las Vegas on Sept. 11, right before Mexican Independence Day weekend.

Here’s our favorite part:

The event is targeted for Las Vegas with a venue still to be determined with an all-weekend event expected with promotion by Triller including concerts and the fight card on Saturday night featuring De La Hoya vs. Belfort.

Numerous musical acts are also rumored for the event but those details will come at a later date with Swizz Beatz and Timbaland overseeing the entertainment portion of the event including a Verzuz rap battle expected to take place on Friday, Sept. 10.

Anything with Swizz and Tim, we’re in. But a live Verzuz battle the night before?? Let’s do this!

De La Hoya is 48 years old and Belfort is 44, so I’m sure this won’t be officially announced until Ensure and AARP dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s on their sponsorship deals.

Belfort fought for a UFC championship three times in his career, and lost all three via stoppage. He retired with a 26-14 record in MMA.

De La Hoya is a 10-time boxing champion in six different weight classes, and finished 39-6 career in the ring. He also won the 1992 Olympic gold medal for the United States. His most recent competitive activity was finishing in fourth place on The Masked Dancer as the “Zebra.”
