Moneyline pick, best player prop for Padres vs. Mets on Friday

We go over some of the best betting options for Friday’s matchup between the San Diego Padres and New York Mets.

The San Diego Padres and New York Mets will start a three-game set at 7:10 p.m. ET. Blake Snell will be on the mound for the Dodgers, while the Mets will start Jacob deGrom. We’ll go over some ideal picks on DraftKings Sportsbook centered around the game here.

Padres vs. Mets, 7:10 p.m. ET

Moneyline pick: Mets -167

The Mets will be looking to capture their fourth win in their last five games when they play the Padres at Citi Field on Friday night. These two teams just played each other last week, where the New York won 2 out of 3.

The Mets come into tonight’s series opener as overwhelming favorites, thanks to starting pitcher Jacob deGrom. The two-time NL Cy Young winner has been lights out this season with a 5-2 record and 0.62 ERA. deGrom’s last start, which came against these same Padres was electrifying. The All-Star pitcher only gave up 3 hits and racked up 11 strikeouts in 7.0 IP. The major key for deGrom and for the Mets is them giving him run support. In his last three starts, New York is averaging 4.3 runs per game.

If New York can score at least four runs that should be enough as the Padres are starting Blake Snell. The former AL Cy Young winner is 2-2 with an ERA of 4.83 through 12 starts this season. Coincidentally, Snell had one of his best outings of the season against the Mets last week, when he only allowed 1 hit and recorded 10 strikeouts in 7.0 IP. However, he has struggled on the road with a 9.70 ERA in six starts. The Padres have suffered a loss in Snell’s last four away starts.

Player Prop: Blake Snell over 6.5 strikeouts (-155)

When deGrom is on the mound, it is almost a guarantee to play his strikeout prop. But I feel as if the number is high in this case, despite the prop being in plus money. We are going to instead play Snell’s strikeout prop, who needs to have a solid start to help get the Padres back on track. The former Rays pitcher has gone over 6.5 strikeouts in 8 out of 12 starts this season, including 3 out of his last 4.

In his last four road starts, Snell has gone over his strikeout prop only once. But he is facing a Mets’ team that is averaging 8.61 strikeouts per game and 8.4 strikeouts per game at home.
