Tale of the Tape for Leon Edwards vs. Nate Diaz

In a welterweight bout on the main card for UFC 263, Leon Edwards will fight Nate Diaz Saturday night from Glendale, AZ and available on ESPN+ PPV.

The 29-year-old Edwards enters the octagon with a professional fighting record of 18-3 (1 NC), and is ranked third in the welterweight class. “Rocky” Edwards last competed at UFC Fight Night 187 in March, which ended with a no contest in Round 2 against Belal Muhammad for an accidental eye poke. Before the NC, the 29-year-old won eight straight contests.

Edwards averages 2.56 strikes per minute with an accuracy of 47%. But the 29-year-old mixed martial artist only absorbs 2.03 strikes per minute, while he defends against them at 55%. He also has a 1.35 takedown average per 15 minutes with a 70% takedown accuracy.

Diaz walks into UFC 263 with a professional fighting record of 21-12, and last fought at UFC 244 in November 2019 where he lost to Jorge Masvidal by TKO in Round 3. The 36-year-old’s last win happened earlier that year at UFC 241, where he defeated Anthony Pettis by unanimous decision.

The veteran fighter lands 4.62 significant strikes per minute with 45% accuracy. He also absorbs more strikes than Edwards at 3.78 per minute and defends against them at 53%. Diaz can also grapple inside the octagon, which will give him a shot in this main card matchup. He has a 1.19 takedown average along with a 30% takedown accuracy and possesses a 1.42 submission average per 15 minutes.
