The Clippers were sitting pretty early in the third quarter of Game 1 only to watch a 14-point lead slip away down the stretch. Down three, they saw their hopes of sending the game into overtime dashed when Rudy Gobert blocked Marcus Morris Sr.’s three-point attempt as time expired. L.A. didn’t have the best shooting night, shooting 42.4 percent from the field as a team with Kawhi Leonard leading the charge with 23 points.
Utah, in contrast, rose to the occasion to defend homecourt on Tuesday, thanks in part to star Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell scored 32 of his 45 points in the second half and combined with Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson for 12 threes. The No. 1 seed Jazz are striving to head to Staples Center with commanding 2-0 series lead.
