Mariners OF Kyle Lewis placed on 10-day IL with meniscus tear

The Seattle Mariners announced on Tuesday afternoon that second-year outfielder Kyle Lewis will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a right meniscus tear. To replace Lewis’ spot on the 26-man roster, the Mariners are recalling outfielder Taylor Trammell from Triple-A Tacoma.

The 2020 American League Rookie of the Year left Monday’s night game against the Oakland Athletics in the eighth inning due to right knee discomfort. This is now the second time that Lewis will be spending time on the injured list. The first time happened earlier this season, when he suffered a bone bruise on his right knee. In 36 games this season, Lewis is hitting .246 with 5 HRs and 11 RBI.

With Lewis out for the next week or so, the Mariners will hope that Trammell can continue his hot-play that he showcased in the minors. The 23-year-old outfielder was optioned down to Triple-A on May 13 to make room Jarred Kelenic. Trammell did not disappoint in his short stint in the minors, slashing .384/.413/.726 with 6 HRs and 19 RBI. He began the season with Mariners and only hit .157 with 4 HRs and 11 RBI in 27 games.
