Will the New York Jets go over or under their win total in 2021?

The New York Jets won just two games in 2020, and they hope their offseason acquisitions will lead to a much better year in 2021.

The New York Jets are once again looking to turn their franchise around after a 2-14 season in 2020. They started the year 0-13 but won consecutive games to lose out on the No. 1 overall pick. New York landed former BYU Cougars quarterback Zach Wilson with their first overall pick as they hope they finally found their quarterback of the future.

We’ll take a look at the latest DraftKings Sportsbook lines and predict if the Jets can beat their 2021 win total. The odds below are as of May 24, 2021.

AFC East win totals

Buffalo Bills 11 (Over -106, Under -122)
Miami Dolphins 9 (Over -148, Under +120)
New England Patriots 9 (Over -134, Under +110)
New York Jets 6.5 (Over +112, Under -136)

Notable offseason moves

New York went heavy on offense during the draft by taking four offensive players in the first three rounds including Wilson, offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, wide receiver Elijah Moore and running back Michael Carter.

The Jets added edge rusher Carl Lawson, who was among the top free agents in this year’s class, along with defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins. The Jets also added another weapon for Wilson with wide receiver Corey Davis.

Among the key departures, they include quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Joe Flacco, leaving the QB room with hardly any experience at the professional level.

New York Jets prediction: UNDER 6.5

All of a sudden, the AFC East is a quality division good enough for three teams to potentially be a part of the playoff picture next season. Unfortunately for the Jets, they are not one of those teams. With the difficult matchups with divisional opponents and the amount of rebuilding needed to fix the roster, we’re going with the under for the Jets’ projected season win total.

The Jets did well this offseason in acquiring young talent, but it’s not going to be enough to reach the seven-win mark. There is even reason to question whether the franchise upgraded at the quarterback position. Rookie QBs often need time to develop and while Wilson’s numbers look fantastic in his final year of college, BYU played an incredibly easy schedule throughout the season. It might take some time for the Jets to be a part of the playoff conversation.
