NBA injuries to monitor ahead of Sunday’s slate on May 9th

We’ve got 8 games on the schedule for Sunday, May 9th, and there are plenty of big names on the injury report. Here we’ll monitor all the latest injury news with some analysis on approaching the injury report for DFS and fantasy basketball.

NBA Injury Report: Sunday, May 9th

Zion Williamson, PF, New Orleans Pelicans

Update: Steven Adams has been ruled out, and NAW is playing with a minutes restriction,

Williamson is out for the season with a finger fracture, and he’s not the only important Pelican who’ll miss Sunday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets. Brandon Ingram (ankle) is doubtful to play as well. Steven Adams (toe) is questionable, but Josh Hart ($6,000) could return to action for the first time over a month after having his thumb surgically repaired. Naji Marshall ($4,700), James Johnson ($3,800), and Jaxon Hayes ($4,200) are backups who could move into starting roles.

Buddy Hield, SG/SF, Sacramento Kings

The injury bug won’t let the Kings go, as Hield (ankle) is questionable and could join De’Aaron Fox (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) and Tyrese Haliburton (knee) on the pine. Harrison Barnes (hip) is doubtful, so it’s unclear who will lead the charge for Sacramento against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Delon Wright ($7,700) and Terence Davis ($5,100) are poised to take on large roles.

New York Knicks injury report

The Knicks have a light injury report ahead of their Sunday matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers, but two rotation players — Immanuel Quickley (ankle) and Alec Burks (knee) — are doubtful. Both players will likely miss their second straight games. Derrick Rose should continue to be more involved on offense with Quickley out of the picture, but don’t expect to see much of Kevin Knox at small forward. RJ Barrett should dominate New York’s minutes at the 3 with help from Reggie Bullock.

Cleveland Cavaliers injury report

Update: Osman and Hartenstein are doubtful. Love will be a game-time decision.

Kevin Love is probable after missing one game with a knee injury, while Cedi Osman (ankle) and Isaiah Hartenstein (concussion) are questionable. Darius Garland will miss his sixth game in a row with an ankle sprain. Osman has been a serviceable wing, and his absence could help Damyean Dotson ($3,000) can significantly value as a punt play. Dean Wade ($3,600) could gain value as Jarrett Allen’s primary backup.

Oklahoma City Thunder injury report

The Thunder have a hefty list of injured players to keep track of. Luguentz Dort (knee) and Ty Jerome (calf) have been ruled out. Theo Maledon (foot) and Aleksej Pokusevski (knee) are questionable. It’s unclear who will play point guard if Jerome and Maledon can’t go, but Svi Mykhailiuk ($3,000) could be a big-time punt play with Dort out of the picture.

Los Angeles Lakers injury report

Update: Kuzma has been ruled out.

LeBron James (ankle) still isn't playing to wrap up the weak, but several other Lakers might not suit up for Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Kyle Kuzma (back) is doubtful, while Alex Caruso (foot) and Talen Horton-Tucker (calf) are questionable. The Lakers won’t have a point guard if Caruso can’t go. Ben McLemore ($3,700), Markieff Morris ($3,200), and Wesley Matthews ($3,000) could get a bump in minutes on the wing as part of some unique lineups.

Detroit Pistons injury report

Update: Grant has been ruled out.

A host of Pistons are back on the injury report after playing against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Jeram Grant (knee) is questionable, while Cory Joseph (ankle), Mason Plumlee (rest), and Wayne Ellington (calf) have been ruled out. Saddiq Bey ($6,900) should be a mainstay in the starting lineup for the rest of the year, and the rest of the Pistons’ young players could get more exposure than usual as the final week of the season winds down.

Charlotte Hornets

Devonte’ Graham (knee) has been ruled out, but Malik Monk ($4,400) is active after being listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Monk will likely be the Hornets’ first man off the bench and get a chance to become a valuable contributor on offense.
