While Alex Cora returning to his old stomping grounds is the headline in this game, that won’t make an impact on the field. We’ve got you covered though with a pick on the moneyline as well as a player prop we think has a solid chance of paying off.
Moneyline pick: Astros +104
Both of these teams sit in second place in their divisions and are less than two games back. But the Sox have won seven of their last 10 and the AL East is slightly more competitive than the AL West is.
Boston is projected to start Eduardo Rodriguez, who has been struggling this season. He’s lost three straight and his ERA has ballooned to over 5. The Astros have the highest-scoring offense in baseball as well, so those two things combined aren’t great. The ‘Stros are putting Jose Urquidy on the bump. While the Sox offense is top-three in runs scored, Urquidy has been better than Rodriguez recently. His ERA sits just over three and has gone seven innings deep in two of his last three starts, so the Red Sox could struggle against him.
Player Prop: Jose Altuve over 0.5 hits (-240)
Altuve has at least one hit in three of his past five games, but prior to that was on a 17-game hitting streak. His numbers aren’t quite to his normal level, but against a pitcher like Rodriguez, he’s probably going to find a hole in one of his at-bats.
