Brooklyn Nets F Jeff Green is expected to be sidelined due to a strained plantar fascia and will be re-evaluated in 10 days, per coach Steve Nash. Green left Game 2 of the first round against the Boston Celtics with what the team called a bruised foot. The Nets lead the Celtics 2-0 in their series and it’s unlikely Green will be back until at least the second round of the playoffs, assuming Brooklyn advances.
Green has been a key cog for the Nets all season long, though he had been coming off the bench through two games in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Green played 27 minutes in Game 1 but only had 3 points with 3 assists and 4 rebounds. Since it’s the playoffs, Green really wasn’t going to be tasked with providing much offense with Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving all healthy.
The Green injury doesn’t impact things at all for Nets futures and their prospects of completing a sweep of the Celtics. It really just means we may see a bit more of Blake Griffin, Nicolas Claxton and Bruce Brown in the forward rotation. If the Nets go on to blowout the Celtics in Game 3, then maybe Alize Johnson gets a few minutes at forward in garbage time. Game 3 between the Nets and Celtics is Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
