Report: Manny Pacquiao to face Errol Spence in August for welterweight title

Manny Pacquiao has signed a contract to fight Errol Spence Jr. for welterweight supremacy. We break down the details.

Manny Pacquiao v Keith Thurman

Legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao is stepping back in the ring this summer. The eight-division champ will face Errol Spence, Jr. in a welterweight fight on August 21 in Las Vegas, per Mike Coppinger. Pacquiao tweeted out a promotional poster Friday afternoon and Coppinger is reporting a contract is signed for the fight. The fight will air on PBC on FOX PPV.

Spence is currently viewed as the top fighter in the world at 147 pounds. While The Ring has not crowned a champion due to numerous alphabet titleholders, Spence is the top dog for the time being. He is 27-0 with 21 knockouts and holds the WBC and IBF welterweight titles. He’s successfully defended one or both titles in five consecutive fights.

Pacquiao is 62-7-2 for his career with 39 knockouts and holds the WBA (Super) title. He claimed that belt with a split decision victory over Keith Thurman in July of 2019. He fought twice in 2019 but has not fought since. He ranks third among welterweights on The Ring rankings.
