The Utah Jazz finished the 2020-21 NBA regular season with the best record in the league with plenty of skeptics regarding whether they can get it done in the playoffs. The Jazz will enter the playoffs relatively healthy throughout the roster, but they need the lone injured player to make a run in this postseason.
Utah Jazz injury report
5/24 Update, Jazz vs. Grizzlies — Mitchell will return to the floor in Game 2 against the Grizzlies after a 17-game absence, according to Shams Charania. Mitchell missed Game 1 and was reportedly upset with how Utah’s training staff managed his injury. The Jazz lost Game 1 and will need to flip the script in Game 2 to avoid going to Memphis down 2-0.
Update, Jazz vs. Grizzlies Game 1 — Mitchell will not play in Game 1 vs. the Grizzlies, Tony Jones of The Athletic reported prior to the game on Sunday night. Update: Joe Ingles will start for Mitchell as expected. Mitchell had missed the end of the regular season due to an ankle sprain. He was not on the injury report on Saturday, so this is a bit surprising. This could be a huge swing in favor of Memphis, which has some momentum having won two play-in tournament games to get into the playoffs.
The Jazz have made the news official, no Spida for Game 1 vs. the Grizzlies. DKSB has the line back up and the Jazz are still favored by 8 points, which feels like a decent number for Memphis getting that much. Utah still has a big advantage even with Mitchell sidelined. Jordan Clarkson likely gets more run off the bench as a scorer and Joe Ingles props would be appealing. Both those guys become strong DFS options as well.
Update, Jazz vs. Grizzlies Game 1 — The Jazz don’t have Donovan Mitchell listed on the injury report for Game 1 of the first round vs. the Memphis Grizzlies. Mitchell had missed the end of the regular season due to an ankle sprain. He’s expected to play in Game 1 and should be 100 percent without restrictions.
5/20 Update: Mitchell returned to practice and said he aims to be ready for Game 1. Both he and Mike Conley were battling injuries late in the season, but it appears Utah’s starting backcourt will be good to go for Game 1.
Donovan Mitchell, ankle — The Jazz have just one person listed on their injury report, but it’s a big name with their best player on the roster. Mitchell played in 53 games this season and averaged 26.4 points per game. He is battling through a sprained right ankle and has not played since April 16. He is questionable for Game 1 of Utah’s first round series, but they probably will not need him in the opening round.
