Barcelona will reportedly fill a massive need at striker with one of the game’s most prolific scorers.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is joining Barcelona after his contract with the Premier League club ends this season, according to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano. Aguero is reportedly taking a massive pay cut to make the deal happen, signing a new contract for less than €10m in salary. Romano adds Barcelona are also looking to add Memphis Depay.

Aguero is one of the top scorers in Premier League history. He’s currently fourth on the league’s all-time scoring list with 182 goals and will forever be remembered for his heroics vs. Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the 2011-12 season to deliver City its first top-flight English football title since 1968. He will provide an additional spark for Barcelona at a low cost as the club looks to shed salary while remaining competitive. Barcelona can finish no higher than third in La Liga this season.

This transfer gives Manchester City the opening to pursue Harry Kane, who wants to leave Tottenham, and Lionel Messi, who was looking to leave Barcelona last summer before deciding to stay. Kane would fill Aguero’s spot in City’s lineup nicely, but Tottenham have made no indication they want to sell him. Messi has a previous relationship with City boss Pep Guardiola, although the addition of a fellow Argentine in Aguero may help convince him to stay with the Catalan club.
