The 2021 NBA Playoffs get underway on Tuesday, May 18 with the new play-in tournament. The 7-10 seeds in each conference face off to finalize the final two spots in each conference’s eight-team first round. As the playoffs get underway, we’ll be breaking down DraftKings Sportsbook odds for each team to open the tournament and as teams advance through each round.
Most people thought that bringing in Chris Paul would only make the Suns a fringe playoff team, but they unexpectedly surged to the top of the Western Conference with a new floor general. Paul helped Phoenix maximize the talents of Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, and key role-players like Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges made valuable contributions along the way. The Suns are one of the NBA’s most well-rounded teams, but their first-round matchup could be a tough one.
Suns odds to win championship, May 17: +1800
Despite how high Phoenix finished out the regular season, it has the fourth-best odds to win the Western Conference (+700) and the seventh-best title odds (+1800). The Suns have excelled at home and on the road this year, but the bottom of the Western Conference is arguably scarier than it’s ever been. The Lakers and Clippers have better odds than Phoenix, and their mix of star power and experience could give them an edge against the Suns in the postseason.
