The 2021 NBA Playoffs have arrived. The playoffs opens with a play-in tournament for the 7-10 seeds in each conference, followed by the first round of the top eight seeds. We’ll be breaking down DraftKings Sportsbook odds for each team to open the tournament and as teams advance through each round.
The Celtics may be the biggest disappointment out of the East this season. Boston had hopes of making a championship run but injuries and poor performance have the Celtics in the play-in tournament to start things off. With Jaylen Brown sidelined for the rest of the season, the Celtics will need to lean on Jayson Tatum to advance to play the Brooklyn Nets/Philadelphia 76ers in the first round. Boston isn’t the type of 7-seed you’d want to face but the team also isn’t what we expected at the start of the year.
Celtics odds to win NBA championship, May 17: +10000
Despite injuries and underperforming this season, the Celtics are even with the Hawks and Knicks at 40/1 to come out of the East, ahead of the Hawks and Knicks despite being a lower seed. Boston is 100/1 to win it all on DraftKings Sportsbook, tied for 12th among playoff teams. If Brown were healthy, you’d think the Celtics have a chance to make a run as a lower seed in the East. The veterans on this team made a run to the East Finals last season and the roster on paper should be better. Without Brown, it’s hard to envision Tatum carrying the team anywhere past the second round (which seems like a stretch to begin with).
