Picks, best bets for DraftKings Sportsbook’s $10,000 Preakness Stakes pool

You can win some cash during the Run for the Black-Eyed Susans even without a ticket from the track.

While the Kentucky Derby certainly looks a bit tainted to those that bet on the race due to scandal, there’s one way to make sure you don’t lose on the Preakness Stakes while still having some action: Enter DraftKings Sportsbook’s $10,000 Preakness Stakes pool!

This one is pretty simple: Pick the Win, Place, and Show horse for the race, and decide if the win will come over or under a certain time. We take our best crack at it below:

Which Horse will finish in First Place?

Medina Spirit
Concert Tour
Midnight Bourbon
Crowded Trade
Ram
Unbridled Honor
France Go De Ina
Rombauer
Any other horse

He didn’t forget how to run totally, he just has as of late. Trainer Steve Asmussen feels confident heading into the starting gate, to get past a rough performance and pull it out when Bob Baffert isn’t allowed to have his horses eating at same barn as Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in 1998.

Which Horse will finish in Second Place?

Medina Spirit
Concert Tour
Midnight Bourbon
Crowded Trade
Ram
Unbridled Honor
France Go De Ina
Rombauer
Any other horse

Yup, the 30-1 horse that’s the longest shot on the board. We’re going there! He looked like a claimer until April of this year, only finishing higher than fifth one time in seven races. But he’s won his last two, and seems to be figuring out this whole “being a race horse” thing.

Also the son of American Pharoah, the horse Baffert guided to the Triple Crown in 2015. There’s a nice sense of poetic justice with him winning here.

Which Horse will finish in Third Place?

Medina Spirit
Concert Tour
Midnight Bourbon
Crowded Trade
Ram
Unbridled Honor
France Go De Ina
Rombauer
Any other horse

Doped up or not, this is still a very good horse, and the Preakness is a far weaker field than the Derby. Even if he’s a now hardcore straight edge horse with three X’s on his hooves all week, he’s still got enough to get on the podium here. And we’ll take his barn mate Concert Tour for the superfecta as well.

Winning Horse Time

Over 1:55.15
Under 1:55.15

The last two Preaknesses were under this time, but the four prior to it were over. This field is thin, and there’s not really a speed horse to set the pace.

What will the saddlecloth number of the Winning Horse be?

Odd
Even

All three horses on our podium are odd: Midnight Bourbon (5), Ram (1), and Medina Spirit.
