The 2021 NHL Playoffs have arrived! The West Division gets its first two rounds underway on Sunday May 16 when the No. 2 Vegas Golden Knights host the No. 3 Minnesota Wild on NBC. The Golden Knights came up just short of the best record in the league, losing the Presidents’ Trophy to the Colorado Avalanche on the final day of the season. But, Vegas gets home ice advantage to open the playoffs.
The Golden Knights came just short of grabbing the No. 1 overall seed and the Presidents’ Trophy on Thursday night after the Avalanche won. Still, Vegas is in a great spot to make another run at the Cup early in the teams conception. This is the fourth season the Golden Knights are in the NHL and the fourth playoff appearance. Vegas has already made it to the Cup and Western Conference Finals in those three seasons. The Knights sport one of the best scoring offenses and the best scoring defense in the NHL, thanks to insane forward depth and veteran goaltending.
The Wild have made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in eight of the past nine seasons. The issue is they never make it past the second round. Will this team be any different? Well, the odds are against them but it is the playoffs and anything can happen. Minnesota is led by Calder Trophy favorite Kirill Kaprizov, who posted 27 goals and 24 assists in 55 games. This isn’t your Zach Parise-Ryan Suter Wild squad but those two are still there to provide leadership and maybe make another playoff run before it alls said and done.
