Fantasy implications of Bears drafting WR Dazz Newsome with No. 221 pick

The Chicago Bears drafted UNC WR Dazz Newsome with the 221st pick in the 2021 draft. Will he be a fantasy football asset to start his career?

The Chicago Bears drafted former North Carolina Tar Heels wide receiver Dazz Newsome with the No. 221 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. He joins a depth chart that includes Allen Robinson II, Darnell Mooney, Anthony Miller, Javon Wims, Marquise Goodwin and others.

Newsome played a key role in the North Carolina passing game in his career and in 2020, he caught 54 passes for 684 yards with six touchdowns in 12 games.

Fantasy football impact

Rookie

Newsome is unlikely to have much of a fantasy football impact in his rookie season, and his main goal should be to make the team as a sixth round draft pick. He should find himself on the roster after training camp, but his biggest impact could be on special teams after running a 4.34 40-yard dash at his Pro Day.

Long-term

Newsome is in the same draft class as new Chicago quarterback Justin Fields, and if the chemistry grows between the two rookies, that would be great news for Newsome’s long-term career. He has the speed to make a difference in the NFL, but he will need to become more of a well-rounded wide receiver to be a consistent factor in fantasy football.
