Moneyline pick, best player prop for Angels vs. Blue Jays on Friday

The Toronto Blue Jays, playing in Dunedin, Fla., dropped their “home” opener on Thursday, 7-5. The Los Angeles Angels came from behind a couple of times in that game and ultimately prevailed in extra innings. Of course, Mike Trout played a big role as he homered for the third consecutive game. A couple of the Blue Jays’ baby bombers, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Cavan Biggio, also went deep. An Angels win tonight would make them 6-2 for the third time in the last five seasons. Toronto, after winning three of its first four, is looking to break a three-game losing streak.

The Blue Jays have fallen on the wrong side of a couple of really close games over the past two nights. Even with George Springer still injured, this lineup is fearsome and it’s only a matter of time until it busts out, which is something we haven’t seen yet. The Blue Jays are going with an opener tonight, but the Angels are countering with LHP Andrew Heaney, who was clobbered by the White Sox in his first start of 2021. Bet on Toronto’s coming to life in a high-scoring game. For reference, the total is set at 11. The over (-107) is a good bet.

Player Prop: Mike Trout to hit a home run (+280)

Why not see if Trout homer can homer for the fourth game in a row? The Blue Jays will open this game with reliever David Phelps before turning the ball over to T.J. Zeuch. Phelps and Trout have faced off for only seven at-bats, but Trout has an absurd average exit velocity of 102.8 mph in those meetings. Trout has yet to see Zeuch, but there is nothing in the righty’s profile that woudl signal a tough matchup for Trout in any way. Even as he prepares to turn 30 years old this summer, Trout is reminding us yet again that he is still the best player in baseball. He has registered a .417/.563/.875 slash line through his first 24 at-bats this season.
