Fantasy impact of the Bucs 2021 NFL Draft selections

We take a look at the fantasy football impact of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ selections in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have put together a fantastic offseason without making many moves. The Super Bowl champs maneuvered their way to returning every starter on both sides of the ball. Tampa Bay has a real shot at winning back-to-back titles, something Tom Brady has proven to be able to do in his career. The Buccaneers have just four picks for their 2021 draft class, as they look to add depth at key positions.

Tampa Bay does not have many needs as every pick is likely to start out as a backup unless there is additional roster movement or injuries. With the few picks they do have, the Buccaneers could find use for offensive line help in a position group that can never have enough depth. Additionally, an edge rusher is about as valuable as it gets in the NFL and with Jason Pierre-Paul at 32 years old and coming off surgery, Tampa Bay could use somebody as the future of that position.

Fantasy football impact

Kyle Trask

Trask is the first fantasy-relevant pick for the Bucs in this year’s draft, but it’s not likely that he’ll return immediate value. The Bucs are reassembling their 2020 Super Bowl-winning roster for the season this move towards a quarterback in the second lets us know that they do know Brady’s time will eventually come to an end. Trask has decent size at 6’4” and 227 pounds and took a big leap in his final season at Florida with 4,278 passing yards, 43 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Similar to Brady, Trask isn’t particularly mobile, but he can navigate within the pocket to make a play downfield. He’s worth a wait-and-see pick in dynasty leagues, though you’re hoping for more development as a passer considering that he has virtually no rushing upside. In 27 games, Trask totaled 54 rushing yards. Totaled.

Jaelon Darden

Darden is a small slot receiver with great speed. His size kept him from going earlier, but he has skills, with more ability than just speed. The Buccaneers know what they’re doing when picking receivers and Darden has a future as a slot receiver in this league. His fantasy contributions will have to wait though.
