Alabama is a factory for NFL talent and this year isn’t any different. They have a whopping eight players who have at least some chance of being drafted in the first round. Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, RB Najee Harris, QB Mac Jones, CB Patrick Surtain II, DT Christian Barmore, C Landon Dickerson, and OT Alex Leatherwood make for one of the best groups of draftees ever from one school.
The Crimson Tide have had four players go in the first round five times since 2011 and they look poised to beat that number this year. We take a look at the odds for number of Alabama players to go in the first round over at DraftKings Sportsbook and break down what the best bet could be.
Player Odds
Total Alabama Players to be Drafted in the First Round: Over 5.5 -250, Under 5.5 +190
Best bet
OVER -250
The consensus mock draft over at NFL Mock Draft Database has Mac Jones going to the 49ers at No. 3, then Jaylen Waddle to the Dolphins at No. 6, next, Patrick Surtain at No, 10 to the Cowboys, then The Giants taking DeVonta Smith at No. 11, Najee Harris to the Steelers at No. 24, Christian Barmore at 26 to the Browns and finally Alex Leatherwood to the Ravens with pick No. 31. That’s seven players, beating the over/under of 5.5 easily.
Of course, I don’t agree completely with the consensus here, but there is little doubt that mock drafters from all over the internet see seven Alabama players as firmly in the first round. We can feel fairly confident that Jones, Waddle, Smith, Surtain and Harris hear their name called on day one. That leaves us just needing Barmore, Leatherwood and possibly Dickerson to get us over the hump. It’s not a big payday, but I don’t see a good way to hit the under here.
