What the 2021 Kentucky Derby field looks like with early odds

UPDATE: The post position draw happened Tuesday morning and Derby favorite Essential Quality is in the 14th position. Known Agenda is in the first position. Check out the full draw.

While the final prices at the track will be determined by the bettors, you can now make some futures bets on who will win the Run for the Roses at the 2021 Kentucky Derby. With the 20-horse field now set, we’ll see the best three-year-old equines in the world battling it out on the first Saturday in May once again after last year’s delayed race due to COVID-19.

Essential Quality opens as the chalk at +290. The Breeders Cup Juvenile winner from last year is undefeated at 5-0 career, and won the Southwest Stakes and Blue Grass Stakes to become the favorite.

The second choice Known Agenda only has one career stakes win, but it was in the Grade I Florida Derby by 2 3/4 lengths on March 27th. The son of Curlin has three total victories in six starts.

And the third choice on the docket is Santa Anita Derby winner Rock Your World, who rocked the field for a 4 1/4-length win, going nine furlongs in 1:49:17. The horse didn’t run as a juvenile at all, breaking his maiden on January 1st in a six furlong sprint, and has run every career race at Santa Anita until he heads to Churchill Downs.
