Tale of the Tape for Zhang Weili vs. Rose Namajunas at UFC 261

Zhang Weili and Rose Namajunas fight for the women’s strawweight title on the main card of UFC 261 on April 24. We break down the odds.

In a women’s strawweight title fight as the co-main event of UFC 261, Zhang Weili will take on Rose Namajunas Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida. The 31-year-old Weili walks into this weekend’s event with a professional fighting record of 21-1, and is the champion of the women’s strawweight class. “Magnum” Weili is also ranked third in the women’s pound-for-pound rankings.

The Chinese mixed marital artist has won 20-straight professional matches including her most recent victory at UFC 240 last year, where she defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk by a split decision. The 31-year-old fighter lands an amazing 6.38 strikes per minute with a striking accuracy 45%. She absorbs 4.43 strikes per minute and defends against them at 53%. And when it comes to grappling, Weili has a 1.26 takedown average per 15 minutes, but 23% takedown accuracy.

Namajunas comes into Jacksonville with a professional fighting record of 9-4, but is ranked first in the women’s strawweight division. The 28-year-old last competed at UFC 251, where she defeated Jessica Andrade in a rematch from a previous fight in 2019. Out of her nine professional wins, five have come via submission. She has racked up 4.13 strikes landed per minute, with 40% striking accuracy. But unlike Weili, Namajunas absorbs fewer strikes at 3.98 per minute but defends them at 60%. However, she's better grappler with a 1.91 takedown average with a 50% takedown accuracy. Her submission average per 15 minute is also at 0.84, hence five submission wins on the resume.
