Former North Carolina Tar Heels wide receiver Dyami Brown developed quite the connection with UNC quarterback Sam Howell the last two seasons as he went over the 1,000-yard receiving mark in 2019 and 2020. He was quite the pairing with fellow receiver Dazz Newsome in the North Carolina offense, and he will look to translate his success to the next level.
After a relatively quiet freshman season, Brown exploded for 51 receptions and 1,034 yards with 12 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2019. He played in one fewer game last season as a junior but exceeded his receiving numbers with 55 catches for 1,099 yards, though his touchdowns dipped to eight. Brown had a fantastic college career and was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award in 2020, which is given to the best receiver in college football.
Scouting Report
Brown made a name for himself as a deep ball specialist taking advantage of corners at the college level as he possesses an excellent ability to not break stride when tracking the football at full speed. An area he will need to work on at the pro level is his hands. Brown dropped too many balls in college, and that’s a quick way to have NFL quarterbacks lose trust and not throw your way.
Mock Draft landing spots
Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus has Brown landing in the third round with the No. 70 p4/26/21ick overall to the Philadelphia Eagles. CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson also has him as a third round pick to the Cleveland Browns at No. 90 overall. On NFL.com, Chad Reuter projected Brown to be a third round pick at No. 82 to the Washington Football Team.
Fantasy impact: Rookie year
It will be interesting to see where Brown lands, but many of the mock drafts project him to be a third round talent. Will he see immediate success in the NFL? It’s probably unlikely as wide receivers usually take a little time to adjust to the better quality of opposing defenders and differing coverages they’ll see. Brown could definitely provide a home run threat quickly, but he would likely be a boom-or-bust option, making it hard to predict when those big plays will come in his first season.
Fantasy impact: Career
Brown has the ability to be a deep ball specialist early in his career, but he could build a nice NFL career for himself if he can prove to be a threat in the short and medium routes. Catching the ball consistently will go a long way for him because he has proven the ability to create separation, but that won’t matter if he’s dropping passes. There is a lot to be excited about from a fantasy perspective, and he will make plenty of fantasy owners happy if he can put it all together.
