Everyone has a take on who the best quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft are and where they’ll end up, but when it’s time to take that take to the sportsbook, we’ve got the numbers on where people are landing. We’ll take a look at the DraftKings Sportsbook betting split percentages for the ten teams most-likely to take North Dakota State’s Trey Lance.
At this point public perception, along with the odds, ebb and flow as to which quarterbacks are going where, but the top guys are pretty much solidified in Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Lance and Mac Jones. We could see a team reach for a different quarterback earlier than expected, but it would be an upset to not see these five come off the board first.
Lance turned a lot of heads at his pro day and he is set to have another one April 19th. Unless he flubs the whole thing, which won’t happen, he’ll likely get another boost. Right now though, he’s favored at +300 to go to the Denver Broncos, who will attend his next pro day. But, being the favorite doesn’t mean bettors are interested in taking that bet.
The Broncos have pick number nine, but the 49ers, Falcons and Panthers are all ahead of them and could take Lance, while the Patriots and Washington could trade up to grab him. Right now the 49ers are getting the biggest percentage of money and bets at 44 percent and 27 percent to grab Lance at No. 3. Of course, they are also also getting the most betting love to land Josh Fields, while Mac Jones is still the overall favorite to end up in San Francisco. Apparently, the buzz around who the 49ers will pick is boosting all the action on the three strongest possibilities.
After the 49ers, the Atlanta Falcons have the biggest percentage of handle and total bets at 31 percent and 21 percent respectively to draft Lance. They still have Matt Ryan, but his time is getting close and the Falcons appear to be in NFL purgatory, unable to win it all, but still sporting a veteran team with some upside. The Falcons are hard to read, but if they like Lance as the future, they’ll need to get a huge haul from someone to trade out of that spot.
The Carolina Panthers still have plenty of people believing they’ll go after a quarterback in the draft despite trading for Sam Darnold. They come in fourth highest in handle and bets, but at +1000, bettors are likely looking for a payday more than feeling confident about their pick.
The odds are all close between the Broncos, 49ers, Falcons, Washington FT, and the Patriots and for good reason. Trying to eliminate any of these teams from contention is nearly impossible.
