Former USC Trojans wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown put up quality numbers in each of his three seasons in college football. He proved he can be trusted as one of the go-to players at the receiver position in college, though he was a bit overshadowed by fellow wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. at times.
In 30 career college games, St. Brown caught 178 passes for 2,270 yards with 16 receiving touchdowns. Pittman Jr. made an impact in two of those seasons but without him in the offense, St. Brown showed his ability as the No. 1 receiving threat. In a six-game season in 2020, St. Brown caught 41 passes for 478 yards and seven touchdowns, and his stock would likely be even higher had a full season been played.
Scouting Report
St. Brown moved around a bit during his college career whether he was playing in the slot or outside, and it seems likely he will be more effective in the slot in the NFL. He is a quality route runner, and he saw nothing but success at the college level for three seasons. Some of the downsides to St. Brown’s game are his ability to separate from corners on the outside, and he could struggle against some of the more physical corners in the league.
Mock Draft landing spots
Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports projects St. Brown to land in the third round with the No. 96 pick overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus is predicting him to land with the New York Jets at No. 86 overall in the third round. Rob Rang of FOX Sports has St. Brown going No. 83 overall to the Chicago Bears in Round 3.
Fantasy impact: Rookie year
A lot of this depends on where he lands, but it’s unlikely St. Brown will be an immediate contributor in fantasy football during his first season in the NFL. He needs to prove he’s worthy of an every down player in the league, which includes improving as a blocker in the run game, an area he did not excel in during college. St. Brown could find a role with a few catches per game on a team whose offense goes to the slot often, but it might take a year for the fantasy success to arrive.
Fantasy impact: Career
St. Brown should have every opportunity to put together a solid NFL career for himself and become a contributor for fantasy football purposes. If his college football career is any indication, he can hold his own as a consistent threat in the passing game. St. Brown is not going to be the most highly rated wide receiver out of this draft class, but there is something to be said for a player who never had a bad year at the college level.
