Kylin Hill had a productive couple of seasons in Starkville, Mississippi for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The 5-foot-11 running back did not play much as a freshman in 2017, but he made his presence felt the next season.
As a sophomore, Hill produced 734 rushing yards on 117 carries and four touchdowns. He also was a factor in the receiving game with 22 receptions for 176 yards and four scores. In 2019, the Mississippi native established himself as one of the top running backs in the SEC.
Hill recorded a career-high 1,350 rushing yards on 242 carries and 10 touchdowns. He lead the SEC that season in carries and was second in plays from scrimmage. He also added 18 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown. Out of the 13 games, Hill had eight games of at least 100 rushing yards or more. For his efforts, the standout back was named to the SEC’s second-team.
This past season, Hill only played in three games as he opted out. But the senior was still invited to the Senior Bowl. He will be one of the many running backs to hear his named called during NFL Draft weekend.
Scouting Report
Hill will likely be drafted on Day 3 of the 2021 NFL Draft and could be a tremendous pick for a team looking for a cheap RB2 to develop. During his last season at Mississippi State, Hill was used primarily as a receiver in Mike Leach’s air raid offense. His ability to catch the ball comfortably out of the backfield should help him make a roster and be a part of a running back rotation.
The 5-foot-11 running back ran a lot out of the inside zone, which features a lot of running in between the tackles. Despite not being the fastest or quickest guy, he is a physical runner and does not stop churning his legs after initial contact. One thing that Hill must improve at is his pass blocking/protection. Since he does not provide any kick or punt abilities, Hill will need to excel at pass pro, along with just running the football. If he succeeds at it, then he will get more snaps for a team.
Mock Draft landing spots
Aforementioned, the former Mississippi State will likely be drafted in Day 3 of the 2021 NFL Draft. He does not do anything special, but can be serviceable RB2 at the next level. Various mock drafts have Hill getting picked by the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints.
Fantasy impact: Rookie year
We shouldn’t expect much from Hill in his rookie year, unless there's a major injury or two in front of him. If he gets selected in Day 3 of the draft, then Hill will be a RB2/RB3 on a team. This also means that he won’t be worth a draft pick in fantasy football, but could be a nice waiver wire add during the season.
Fantasy impact: Career
Kylin Hill isn’t an explosive running back by any means, but he should be a serviceable NFL running back. With his ability to run and catch the ball out of the backfield, the 5-foot-11 running back could be a solid FLEX play.
