Dak Prescott signs 4-year, $160 million deal with Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have settled their quarterback position for the next few years.

Does Dak Prescott’s new contract put pressure on him to perform?

UPDATE: Prescott has signed a four-year contract worth $160 million, per Adam Schefter. It includes $126 million in guaranteed money — although it is not clear how much in total is fully guaranteed. Schefter followed up that the deal could be worth up to $164 million and includes $66 million to sign and $75 million in his first year. All are records.

The Dallas Cowboys took care of a big piece of business on Monday and secured a key to their long-term prospects. The Cowboys announced they have agreed to terms on a contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott. The team had until Tuesday to decide if they would use their franchise tag for a second straight season, but was instead able to get a contract done. The team announced that more details will be provided on Wednesday at a press conference.

Prescott played last season on the franchise tag, but saw his season cut short in his fifth game due to a fractured ankle. He was lost for the season and although he needed a second surgery in December, he is on track to make a full recovery for the 2021 season.

The QB has earned two Pro Bowl nods and was the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year in 2016. He had his best season to date in 2019, completing 65.1 percent of his passes for 4,902 yards, with 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and added 277 rushing yards and three rushing scores. In five games before his ankle injury, Prescott completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,856 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions, and had rushed for three scores.

Prescott only played in five games, but he finished the season with the highest fantasy points per game among all quarterbacks. In 2019, he ranked fourth among fantasy quarterbacks.
