How and what to watch for No. 11 Florida State vs. Notre Dame

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will welcome the No. 11 Florida State Seminoles to the Joyce Center in South Bend Friday night to wrap up their regular season.

Notre Dame (9-14, 6-11 ACC) has struggled recently. Heading into Friday’s matchup, they’ve lost four in a row and five of their last seven. They’re led by Prentiss Hubb who is scoring just over 14 points per game, but their defense is where the real issues stem from. The Irish are allowing their opponents to score over 73 points per game and over their last four games, opponents are averaging 80 points per game. KenPom has them ranked 183rd in terms of defensive efficiency.

Florida State (15-4, 11-3 ACC) currently sits on top of the ACC standings and have the chance to wrap up a regular conference title Friday night. The ‘Noles are averaging 80 points per game on offense, and could have a field day against the suspect Irish defense. FSU is a well-rounded team, with no single player averaging more than 15 points per game. The depth the team has is clear when looking at their stats on the season. M.J. Walker leads the way with 14 points per game, but they have eight players who average more than five points per contest and three in double figures.

KenPom is giving FSU a 70% chance to go on the road and come away with a win.

FSU is beating ACC opponents by an average of 12.5 points a game while three of Notre Dame’s last four losses have come by eight points or more. Being on the road won’t present a challenge for the Noles to cover here.
