How and what to watch for Iowa State vs. No. 18 Texas Tech

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will look to avoid a huge upset on Thursday night when they host the Iowa State Cyclones, which have not won a game since December 20th.

Texas Tech (16-8, 8-7 Big 12) is ranked No. 18 in the country but will enter Thursday’s game in seventh place in the conference. The Red Raiders followed up a three-game losing streak with a pair of consecutive victories, most recently a 69-49 home win over the TCU Horned Frogs on Tuesday night. The Red Raiders come in at No. 22 in the latest KenPom ratings, and their defense ranks 17th in the country in adjusted efficiency. Reserve guard Jamarius Burton hasn’t played since February 20th with a toe injury, and is questionable for this game.

Iowa State (2-19, 0-16 Big 12) is still looking for their first victory in the Big 12 Conference, and the Cyclones will probably have a better shot in their regular season finale against the Kansas State Wildcats. Iowa State is coming off an 81-67 home loss to the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday night, and Jalen Coleman-Lands scored 22 points for the Cyclones on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor. Iowa State was without leading scorer Rasir Bolton with an ankle injury, and it remains to be seen whether he will return on Thursday.

  • Texas Tech is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games.

The Best Bet

Iowa State’s biggest struggles come on the offensive end and if the Cyclones might be without their best offensive player, the under makes a lot of sense in this game. Iowa State comes in with the No. 209 ranked offense in adjusted efficiency, and Texas Tech plays very good defense. In addition, the Red Raiders are not a very high scoring team because they play at a fairly slow pace.

Pick: Under 136.5
