How odds are finalizing for the Shields vs. Dicaire junior middleweight title fight

We break down the odds for Claressa Shields’ junior middleweight title fight with Marie-Eve Dicaire. The betting public appears to be backing the heavy favorite.

The world gets a chance to watch one of the best fighters in the world on Friday evening in a junior middleweight bout featuring all four titles on the line. WBC and WBO champion Claressa Shields faces off against IBF Marie-Eve Dicaire with the vacant WBA super title also on the line to crown an undisputed junior middleweight champion.

Shields is looking to further cement her legacy as arguably the best fighter in the world. She is 10-0 and currently holds the WBC and WBO titles. In her last fight — January 2020 — she beat Ivana Habazin via unanimous decision to claim the two titles and become the fastest boxer in history — man or woman — to win titles in three weight divisions.

Dicaire is looking to build her own legacy and secure what would be one of the bigger upsets in recent boxing memory. She is 17-0 and currently holds the IBF title after three successful defenses. Her most recent fight came in November 2019 when she beat Ogleidis Suarez via unanimous decision.

Shields and Dicaire were first scheduled to fight last May, but it has been repeatedly pushed back. COVID-19 was one reason, but Showtime also appeared to string the fighters along for most of the year. Shields took matters into her own hands to build out the first all-women’s boxing PPV, headlined by Shields vs. Dicaire.

Shields is viewed by many as the best woman fighter in the world. The Ring Magazine currently ranks her second to Katie Taylor, but that is likely due more to Taylor getting in a pair of fights last fall. If Shields beats Dicaire, she likely will return to the No. 1 spot in the pound-for-pound rankings.

The odds suggest there is a strong chance that happens. DraftKings Sportsbook opened Shields as a -1115 favorite and Dicaire as a +550 underdog. We’ve seen some significant movement since then, with Shields now a -1430 favorite. The betting public appears to be backing this fight going the distance, with “YES” moving from -335 to -345. Dicaire has no knockouts in 17 career fights, while Shields won two of her first four fights by stoppage.
