Update: Despite Devonta Smith’s lingering finger injury, he did take the field for a few reps with quarterback Mac jones. The two connected on a long throw down the field and in the end zone despite some early overthrown balls.

So a bit of a an update here. Smith has thrown with Mac Jones recently. His finger that he injured in the the National Championship still isn’t 100% and actually is still purple. But he wants to run a few routes today. So we may end up seeing him after all. https://t.co/SxC9jQuB2J

Alabama holds its second school Pro Day Tuesday, but we’ll be without information from two key players — wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle. Both wideouts are projected as Day 1 prospects for the 2021 NFL Draft, but neither will work out for the teams in attendance after sustaining injuries in 2020 — Smith suffering a hand injury in the NCAA Championship game and Waddle recovering from ankle surgery in October.
DeVonta Smith is hailed as the 2021 Heisman Trophy Winner after posting a mindblowing 1,862 scrimmage yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior at Alabama. Despite his accolades, there’s been some concern regarding his smaller frame. At the team’s first Pro Day, Smith was questioned by the media regarding his weight, and he stated that he was weighing 170 pounds at his height of 6’1” — previously listed at 175 pounds on the Alabama Roster. It’s unclear if he’ll provide measurements at the team’s second Pro Day.
Waddle’s season ended prematurely after suffering an ankle injury in October, but it didn’t stop him from leaving a big mark in the 2020 season. In his four games leading up to the injury, Waddle totaled 25 catches for 557 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He underwent surgery on the evening of the injury, and though he did return for the 2021 College Football Championship game against Ohio State, it was clear he wasn’t yet close to 100%.
