The Show heads to Las Vegas, but this isn’t GLOW as the No. 19 San Diego State Aztecs face the UNLV Rebels this Wednesday evening, and it’s Senior Night on East Harmon Avenue for the Rebs Cheikh Mbacke Diong.
SDSU (19-4, 13-3 MWC) can lock up the No. 1 seed in the MWC Tournament with a win, to be played on this same court next week. After some issues in the post-Malachi Flynn Era to start the year, the Aztecs have won 10 in a row via five-straight sweeps of conference foes, the last one over NCAA bubble team Boise State. Brian Dutcher’s team is doing it with defense, holding opponents to just 90.3 points per 100 possessions. Seniors Jordan Schakel and Matt Mitchell have blossomed, combining for 25.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for a team that start four players in their fourth-year of eligibility.
The Rebels (11-12, 8-8 MWC) have been unable to get the ship righted yet under second-year coach T.J. Otzelberger, just as they couldn’t under Marvin Menzies or Todd Simon or Dave Rice. UNLV is the third-worst team in college basketball in free throws attempted relative to field goals attempted, but junior Bryce Hamilton still shines with 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. With the transfer portal wide open this summer, could this be his last game in Thomas & Mack?

The Best Bet
How’s UNLV going to score here? It’s a road game for The Show, and they’ve been a bit underwhelming offensively in those spots. But they continue to get stops, and shoudl have plenty of them here.
Pick: Under 131
