Two Pac-12 teams that defied the odds in the first and second rounds, the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans, will meet this weekend in the Sweet 16 of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

It should be an exciting matchup. But before you place your bets, make sure to check out this odds history article. It will show you how both teams performed this season against the oddsmakers’ predictions.

Below are the odds and bet splits for No. 7 Oregon vs. No. 6 USC in the Sweet 16 of the 2021 NCAA Tournament from DraftKings Sportsbook:

Against The Spread

Oregon: +2 (35% of handle, 38% of bets)
USC: -2 (65% of handle, 62% of bets)

Is the public right?

Yes, the public is right on the money in this matchup. While Oregon may have shocked some people in the second round when they took down the Iowa Hawkeyes, they’ll be facing a much better defense this time. These teams have pretty evenly matched offenses, the Trojans are ranked as the fifth-most efficient defensive unit in the nation, according to KenPom and they’re giving up just over 50 points per game this season.

Moneyline

Oregon: +112 (52% of handle, 60% of bets)
USC: -132 (48% of handle, 40% of bets)

Is the public right?

Not this time. While Oregon's offense is slightly better than USC’s, their defense gives up close to 80 points per contest. These two teams have also met once before this season and the Trojans coasted to a 14 point victory.

I get that Oregon is hot and the Iowa win was surprising to a lot of people, but that splashy victory for the Ducks doesn’t take away from what USC has been doing all season.

Point Total

Over: 138.5 (60% of handle, 82% of bets)
Under: 138.5 (40% of handle, 18% of bets)

Is the public right?

Yes, the public is spot on here. Both teams play at a relatively slow pace, 225 and 236 in the nation according to KenPom, but they’re lethal when they eventually do get shots off. The Ducks come into this tilt with the 10th most efficient offense in the nation and USC has the 15th.

Both squads are averaging around 75 points per game, which would easily pass the 138.5.
