Both the Oregon State Beavers and the Loyola Chicago Ramblers pulled off big upsets over the course of the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, putting two Cinderella’s on a collision course for the Sweet 16. The Ramblers currently sit as a 6.5 point favorite and the point total is at 125. The Oregon State moneyline is +225 while Loyola Chicago is -285.
No. 12 Oregon State: 18-12, 7-12-1 ATS
November/December: 2-4 ATS
January: 5-3 ATS
February: 7-1-1 ATS
March: 6-1 ATS
Vs. Total: 18-12 Over
In NCAA Tournament: 2-0 ATS
The Beavers have been underdogs in eight straight games and have come away with outright wins in seven of them. The only time they failed to cover over that span was a loss to the Oregon Ducks, who coincidently also find themselves in the Sweet 16 after a big upset over the weekend. Over that eight-game span, the Beavs offense has been clicking as well, hitting the over in all but one of the contests.
Through the course of the regular season, OSU has faced three teams that were ranked in the AP-top 25, going 2-1 in them. They’ve never faced a team ranked higher than 21 in the nation until the NCAA Tournament and are 5-5 in the NCAA NET rankings over Quad 1 teams.
No. 8 Loyola Chicago: 24-4, 18-9-1 ATS
November/December: 4-2 ATS
January: 7-1-1 ATS
February: 2-6 ATS
March: 5-0 ATS
Vs. Total: 13-15 Over
In NCAA Tournament: 2-0 ATS
Heading into the Tournament, many people were saying that the Ramblers were given a rough draw and were better than the eight seed they were given. Turns out, it didn’t much matter as they knocked off a Final Four favorite in Illinois in the Round of 32.
Overall, Loyola Chicago has covered the spread in each of their last five games. They’re not the highest-scoring team in the nation. Throughout the entire season, they’ve had the point total hit the over just six times when the line was set at 125 or higher, and have only done it once against an NCAA Tournament team.
The Ramblers have faced just one top-25 team this season when they fell to Wisconsin all the way back in December. They’ve been rolling since then though, only losing four times all year and just twice since 2021 began. Just like the Beavers, they’ve gone .500 against Quad 1 opponents in the NCAA NET rankings, going 2-2 this season when facing them.
