Free agent Marcus Mariota will sign a reworked deal and stay with the Las Vegas Raiders for another season, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It was previously reported that Mariota would not take the $3 million the team was offering, but he must not have found much interest outside of Las Vegas and instead signed a $3.5 million dollar deal with incentives that could raise his payday up to $8 million.

Derek Carr of course remains the starter, but the Raiders will have a backup that can bring a spark if Carr is hurt. It would have been nice to see Mariota compete for a starting job somewhere else though. He showed well in his one game last season and looked like he had progressed in his development as an NFL starter. But, he will stick in his backup role for another season. He will likely test the market next offseason when there should be more salary cap to play with.
