The Bluejays proved their doubters wrong in Monday’s Round of 32 matchup against the Bobcats. Jason Preston-led Ohio crumpled against Creighton’s well-rounded scoring attack. Five Bluejays reached double-digits in points, and Marcus Zegarowski led the way with 20. Preston had an underwhelming performance and only managed to score four points. Ohio was held to just 31.5% shooting, so Monday’s game was far from a quality performance.
No. 1 Gonzaga 28-0 (15-0 WCC)
KenPom rating: 1 Overall, 1 Offense, 7 Defense
NET ranking: 1 (9-0 vs Quad 1)
Leading scorer: Corey Kispert (19.3 ppg)
The Bulldogs put on yet another dominant display on Monday, dusting off the Sooners 87-71 en route to the Sweet 16. Corey Kispert usually leads Gonzaga’s top-ranked offense, but Drew Timme took control against Oklahoma. Timme racked up a team-high 30 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with 13 rebounds in his double-double effort. Kispert and rookie standout Jalen Suggs chipped in with 16 points apiece in the drubbing.
The Sooners actually made one more field goal than the favorites and shot a slightly better percentage from the field, but the Bulldogs at them alive at the charity stripe and converted 23 of their 26 attempts. Very good teams lose to Gonzaga by double-digits despite putting together complete games. Creighton has a real challenge waiting in the Sweet 16.
