The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles become the second team to reach the Sweet 16 as a No. 15 seed with an 81-78 win over the No. 7 seed Florida Gators on Sunday night.
The Golden Eagles join the legendary Dunk City Florida Gulf Coast Eagles of 2013 as the only teams to get to the regional semifinals as a No. 15 seed.
Kevin Obanor shined for ORU scoring 28 points, with Max Abmas adding 26 after his heroics against Ohio State to get the Golden Eagles here in the first place.
Oral Roberts held the Gators to just 7-22 from three-point range and forced 20 turnovers, which is pretty amazing for a team that entered the game ranked 249th in defensive efficiency in America.
Colin Castleton pulled down yet another double-double for the Gators in the NCAA Tournament with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but failed to get enough help to get his heavily favored team to the Sweet 16. Florida was a nine-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook at tip-off, but will be leaving Indiana likely regretting wasting the very clear path they had going forward.
Up next for Oral Roberts will be the No. 3 seed Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, with a time, arena, and TV channel still to be announced.
