UPDATE: The Ramblers won! Sister Jean’s squad upset No. 1 Illinois, and as she suggested in her pre-game prayer, they took care of business on the boards. Loyola Chicago outrebounded the Illini 31-27 in the 71-58 victory. The Ramblers are headed to the Sweet 16.
If you’ve followed college basketball since March of 2018, no doubt you’ve heard of Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, the biggest fan of the Loyola Chicago Ramblers there is.
She’s old! Triple digits now! She likes basketball! She says funny and charming things!
Well today the longtime member of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary decided to give a team prayer. Feel the spirituality and the desire to bring inner peace to those she’s committed to serve below.
Sister Jean's pre-game prayer for Loyola Chicago... is as much as a scouting report as a prayer pic.twitter.com/jKCvyHd9qJ

It sounds like she’s angling for a spot on Porter Moser’s staff. Sorry, Sis, even the senior citizens have to grind it up from the film room. Start cutting some tape.
But while we make jokes about the blending of religious affiliation and weakside help rotations, she might be onto something: The Ramblers entered the game with the No. 3 adjusted-defense in college basketball, and hold opponents to just 87.8 points per possession.
And No. 8 Loyola leads No. 1 Illinois 28-17 at the under-4 timeout in the first half.
